Inspiring photo-based multimedia

While roaming the Internet, I came across several works that really moved me. However, this specific video I thought was really well put together. It is about the 2009 Palmer Fest at the University of Ohio in Athens. Last year this annual event got out of control and police ended up having to shut down the fest. Students got out of hand, throwing beer cans at police officers on horseback.


This particular video has nothing to with fighting for a cause, or promoting awareness about something, but I feel it was very well put together. The audio in the back round is all live from the actual riots and event. The photos in the show progress perfectly with the audio clips. Even the photos I thought were extremely well taken. They were so clear and real. None of them seemed staged but instead were candid and all taken in front of the same American flag. In a way it is ironic to see the actions of people, the fake salutes they give, in front of something that should be so sacred.


I enjoyed the flow of the video and really think everything matched up really well and it was really clear. The transition from the party scene to the night time when the police came was very real and it felt like you were watching what was actually happening. The descriptions from the crowd helped a lot and were key to understanding and getting a feel for the whole event. The only thing I really wanted to change or criticize was the ending. I felt like all of a sudden the video just stopped. I wish there had been more information about the police and riots and an actual story ending to the video. Other than that, I really enjoyed this piece.
